KINGSLAND, Texas (KXAN) — The organization that provides a voice for children navigating the court system needs more volunteers.

Faye Payne has been volunteering for four years helping children cope with being away from their parents as they navigate the legal system. But she says the hours and emotional investment are worth it because she says children going through the process of being removed from a home due to hardship, violence or abuse need her help.

Faye is one of 65 active volunteers working for CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocate, of the Highland Lakes area but dozens more are needed to keep up with the demand.

A CASA someone who represents a child in court proceedings associated with foster placement and adoption. The volunteers make a placement recommendation to the judge overseeing the child’s case.
