AUSTIN (KXAN) — A candidate for attorney general dismissed a complaint against him on Monday.
Texans For Public Justice filed the complaint against Republican State Sen. Ken Paxton with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office.
It all stems from Paxton’s private work and failing to register as an investment advisor, a violation of the Texas Securities Act.
A Paxton spokesman accused Texans For Public Justice of being a Democratic-funded group.
“The truth speaks for itself: a mistake in paperwork was made, this matter was stringently reviewed, a $1,000 fine was assessed and the matter was fully resolved,” he said. “Now, roughly 100 days prior to the general election, a Democrat front-group admitted that they are trying to make this matter something bigger than it was.”
Paxton faces Democrat Sam Houston in November.
