CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — A dog that was shot by a Cedar Park police officer on Wednesday was euthanized at the recommendation of a veterinarian.
The officer shot the dog after it approached the officer in an aggressive manner, the department said.
The officer initially responded to Tristan Way near Warwick Way around 7:15 p.m. for a report of two dogs running loose in the area. While the officer was attempting to make contact with a homeowner, a dog charged at the officer, according to a Cedar Park police spokesperson.
The dog was taken to an emergency vet hospital for treatment, but was euthanized later that night due to the severity of the injuries.
The officer was not injured during the incident.
An investigation into the shooting is underway. No citation has been issued to the dog’s owner yet, but police said the dog was running loose.
