AUSTIN (KXAN) — When natural disasters strike the American Red Cross of Central Texas is there ready to assist in the aftermath.
Now, the group is seeking a new set of volunteers who can make a difference by going on Twitter and Facebook.
Digital volunteers will post life saving information during severe weather in the comfort from their home. Volunteers will live-Tweet, create blog posts, upload photos and smartphone video and help the organization listen and respond to community questions and concerns.
“What that allows us to do is engage individuals from the community who may not have had the time to or ability to be a Red Cross disaster volunteer in another capacity,” said Bristel Bowen, Communications Director, American Red Cross of Central Texas.
There is a free training session Tuesday, July 22 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the American Red Cross-Central Texas chapter at 2218 Pershing Drive; the course can be taken in person or online.
