AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man was charged with aggravated assault after he threatened a University of Texas student with a knife along the Drag, police say.

Carola Guerrero De Leon says the man tried to spit on her before she went into a store on Guadalupe Street. When she walked out, the man started screaming at her and while holding a knife.

“I learned he had a previous criminal background so I decided to file charges just in case so that it wouldn’t happen again to anybody else,” Guerrero De Leon said.

UT police said they had dealt with the suspect on several occasions, but this was the first time he used a weapon. Police did not release the man’s name but provided the above picture to alert the campus community of his actions.

People who see the man on or near campus in the future are asked to call UTPD at 512-471-4441.

However, he faces two to 20 years in jail if convicted. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
