SAN ANTONIO (AP) — San Antonio police say a standoff has ended after several hours with a suspect in custody.

Sgt. Javier Salazar says in a news release that police responding to a call for an assault in progress encountered a male suspect and a female victim outside a home. He says the suspect pointed what appeared to be a handgun at officers and ignored commands to drop it.

Officers fired at the suspect, who retreated into the house. The release says the woman stayed with officers.

Salazar says a SWAT team and negotiators came to the scene. After several hours, the suspect exited but didn’t comply with commands. So SWAT officers used a “less lethal weapon” to bring him into custody.

No officers were injured. The suspect was treated for a gunshot wound.
