AUSTIN (KXAN) – Two center lanes on 6th street and two left lanes on 7th street between Congress and Brazos Streets will be closed over the next two weeks while Austin Water replaces old water lines.
Austin Water will be using trenchless technology to repair two aging sections of wastewater pipe. No water disruptions are expected during this construction period.
The closures started 7 a.m. Monday, July 14, and won’t reopen until 6 a.m. Thursday.
“People understand that we have to maintain the infrastructure, and even though it’s an inconvenience, they realize that maintaining a reliable, safe infrastructure does take some patience on everyone’s part,” said Jill Mayfield, Spokesperson for Austin Water.
There will still be two lanes open on both 6th and 7th streets for cars to pass through this week, but all lanes on 6th and 7th streets will be closed starting next Monday, July 21. Police officers will be directing traffic to make sure people can get into the parking garages on 6th and 7th streets.
All water line construction is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. Friday, July 25.
