BURNET, Texas (KXAN) — A Burnet County man was sentenced to 50 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to shooting and killing his 85-year-old grandfather.

Farest Elmo Reed was found dead inside a home along SH 29 just outside of Burnet on Nov. 13, 2013. Police learned that his truck was missing and a statewide alert was issued to authorities to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

Authorities spotted 24-year-old Matthew William Reed driving the truck about eight hours later near the crime scene. When they tried to stop him, Reed sped west down SH 29 into Llano County before crashing into a pasture.

Reed told officers he shot his grandfather after an argument.

He pleaded guilty to the charges late last week.
