Prescribed burn underway in Hays County

Leander Fire and Rescue

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – Residents of Hays County may see smoke rising from a prescribed burn Monday in the Water Quality Protection Lands.

Smoke may be visible west of Buda, east of FM 1826 and north of FM 967 as crews conduct the burn.

Austin Water says the prescribed burn will mimic the natural fire cycle and helps maintain “fire-resilient” landscapes.

Monday’s scheduled burn is being done with the cooperation of the Austin Fire Department, local Emergency Service Districts and the Texas A&M Forest Service and US Fish and Wildlife Service.
