AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Film Society welcomed Austin filmmaker Richard Linklater at the screening of his latest film.

The 12-year project, “Boyhood,” celebrated its approaching release date with a special screening.

It included a Q&A with the cast and crew, as well as a chance to snap some photos in the lobby afterward.

Linklater says he took a leap of faith tackling a project with the same cast that spanned over a decade.

“So I knew the shot ten years before we shot it, but the exact dialogue? I don’t know, ten hours, ten minutes before we shot it. You know we were always dialing in on the right moment, the right words,” said Linklater.

The film chronicles the lives of one Texas family and stars Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, and Lorelei Linklater.

“Boyhood” opens in Austin on Friday, July 18, at Violet Crown Cinema. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
