AUSTIN (KXAN) — We all like save a few bucks when we can, and a new TxDot campaign wants to help you do that as well as help the environment.

The Drive Clean Texas campaign is introducing the app Roadcents. It aims to help drivers save money on gas and reduce harmful emissions.

What may surprise a lot of people is that driving a vehicle that needs maintenance can add $100 a year in gas spending.

Underinflated tires can add an extra $90 dollars a year in fuel costs.

As part of the campaign, Austin drivers may see giant smartphones at gas stations, demonstrating the new Roadcents app.
The app teaches ways to reduce emissions and save money by driving smart.

Here are some changes you can make to drive smart:
– Check tire pressure once a month
– Get your car tuned up on schedule
– Drive the speed limit
– And stop at the “click” when filling your gas tank provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
