ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) – Round Rock Police are asking for your help identifying a man who tried to sexually assault a woman near Caldwell Heights Elementary School this week.
The woman told police she was walking home from a jog at the school Tuesday around 9:45 p.m. when she was grabbed from behind. The man pushed her to the ground and tried to assault the woman.
The woman screamed for help and a person who lived nearby came out to see what the commotion was. The suspect ran away.
Police describe the suspect as a white man between the ages of 19 and 20, who stood 5’9″ tall and weighed approximately 130-150 pounds. He had a thin mustache, brown hair and eyes and an athletic build.
At the time of the attempted assault the suspect was wearing a blue hoodie with raised yellow or gold lettering on the front.
Round Rock Police did not release the information until Friday, and some nearby residents are asking why police waited three days to alert the public.
“I’m very overprotective actually…probably too much, but then again hearing this, obviously it’s not too much,” said Micael Monroe who lives just off Terra Street. “There’s a lot of women who walk and job at all hours of the day and night.”
Neighbors who live close to where the alleged incident happened say its the departments responsibility to warn residents as soon as possible.
“They should be knocking…even putting papers on people’s doors if that’s what it takes,” said Rita Torres. “Don’t wait.”
Of their decision to wait on releasing the information, Cmdr. Alain Babin said, “Like anything we’re always trying to confirm and make sure we’re following up on all investigative leads. Now we’re seeking the public’s help to help us.”
Anyone who recognizes the man in the sketch or has information about the assault should call police at 512-671-2709. You can call Williamson County Crime Stoppers and leave an anonymous tip at 1-800-253-7867.
