Round Rock nurse accused of stealing drugs

Susan Jones

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — A nurse was arrested by police in Round Rock after being accused of stealing hundreds of bottles of prescription pain killers.

Susan Renee Jones, 46, took the drugs while working at Seton Williamson Hospital in Round Rock, according  to an arrest affidavit.

Hospital officials began looking into Jones’ use of a medication dispenser after staff alerted them. Jones also became drowsy during a procedure in April and failed to answer clinical questions correctly, the document said.

An audit of the medicine taken from the cabinet turned up 148 missing vials of Fentanyl over a several-month period. Even more vials of another drug also were missing, according to the affidavit.

Access to the cabinet is restricted and each employee has a specific code they must enter when accessing the drugs, hospital officials told police. The audit was able to pinpoint each time Jones’ code was used to open the cabinet.

Jones was charged with diverting a controlled substance, a state jail felony. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
