Bus driver critically injured in crash along I-35

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A crash involving a charter bus and TxDOT construction vehicle along Interstate 35 sent five people to the hospital on Tuesday night.

The crash happened along the southbound lanes between Howard and Parmer lanes.

The driver of the bus, a man in his 40s, was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with life-threatening injuries, according to Austin-Travis County EMS.

A total of 25 people were involved in the crash. Four of the five people hospitalized did not have life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the TxDOT driver was not injured in the crash.

Austin police say the bus belonged to a company called Omnibus and was headed to Mexico.

All southbound lanes were closed as authorities investigated the crash.
