Hurting for Work: Shining light on ‘Workers’ Comp’

Workers' comp claim

Austin (KXAN) – A four-part series by our news partners at the Texas Tribune is taking an in depth look at workers’ compensation around the state.

The investigation found that Texas has led the nation in worker fatalities for seven of the last 10 years.

More than half a million people have no benefits when they get hurt on the job.

Nearly half of all workers’ comp claims were denied or disputed from 2008 to 2013.

The Texas Tribune’s managing editor, Brandi Grissom, joins Erin Cargile to talk about the investigation and what needs to be done. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
