Family pleads for hit-and-run driver to come forward

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An Austin family is pleading with the public to help them find two hit-and-run drivers who put their loved one in the hospital early Saturday morning.

21-year-old Valencia Lock was riding in a car traveling along Interstate 35 near the St. Johns Avenue exit. The car was hit from behind shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday.

Lock’s family says she got out to check the damage, and a second car slammed into them as she got back in. They said both drivers then fled the scene.

Valencia Lock is now in the hospital with broken legs, a busted collar bone, a dislocated shoulder, multiple scrapes and major cuts.

Her brother spoke to KXAN Sunday afternoon.

“They didn’t know the extent of the injures or anything,” he said. “They just left them there like animals, and my sister took the brunt of the force of the accident, and it’s pretty traumatic.”

We hope to hear more from Austin police about their investigation Monday. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
