Thousands attend Downtown Austin gaming convention

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than 30,000 people attended this year’s RTX convention at the Austin Convention Center.

The annual event, put on by Rooster Teeth, brings together gamers and online video fans from around the world for a weekend-long celebration.

Attendees got the chance to play their favorite video games and preview demos of upcoming releases. Part of the RTX fun for many fans is dressing up as their favorite character.

Gabbi Rudge got tickets to the convention as a graduation present. She began making her costume months ago.

“I took a sewing kind of action wear and design class this year in grade twelve and made this hoodie unit,” Rudge said. “It took probably from before December break to after March break.”

Fans also got to hear from panels of Rooster Teeth experts and get autographs signed by some of the internet gaming sensations.

“You see them on the internet and you’re like ‘Hey, those guys are cool’ and you see them in real life and you’re like ‘Ahhh, this is real life,'” Alex Moderhock said.

Rooster Teeth has 1.5 million registered members on its website and over 7.5 million subscribers on YouTube.
