CALDWELL COUNTY (KXAN) — A man was killed and several other people were injured in a six-vehicle crash near San Marcos. The crash happened at about 12:40 p.m Friday.

Troopers say 25-year-old Christopher Bauman from The Woodlands, Texas died at the hospital after the Nissan Altima he was riding in was rear-ended at State Highway 80 and Old Bastrop Highway in Caldwell County. Three other people inside the car suffered injuries.

The driver of the Altima was traveling west on State Highway 80, preparing to turn left onto Old Bastrop Highway, when the car was rear-ended by a 2005 Dodge Neon and pushed into oncoming traffic.

Two vehicles struck the Altima before sending it into a marked DPS patrol car waiting to turn from Old Bastrop Highway onto SH 80.

Debris from the collision truck a sixth vehicle.

Officials say the driver of the Neon is under investigation for intoxication manslaughter. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
