Rollover knocks out power near downtown

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A rollover crash on the northbound Interstate 35 service road near Cesar Chavez Street knocked out power to about 800 people in the Fiesta Gardens area.

The wreck happened before 6:30 a.m. Police say the car took out a utility pole as it overturned.

When crews got there, they found the driver unconscious and took that person to the hospital — without life-threatening injuries.

The crash resulted in a large backup along the service road. The road has since reopened, however, utility crews are on the scene dealing with the damaged pole and may close additional lanes as they work. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
