(CNN) – As Texas continues to deal with a huge influx of undocumented immigrant children, another issue is caring for the children captured at the border.
One North Texas county has come up with a solution: Officials are considering several shuttered schools as possible shelter locations.
As many as 2,000 children may be relocated to Dallas.
Dallas County has closed at least a dozen elementary and middle schools in recent years, so the federal government is looking at housing the children in some of those schools.
Children would be vaccinated and evaluated before being sent.
If approved, it could be open and operating within a month.
The federal government would pay for it.
