Report of man with knife shuts down I-35

ROUND ROCK (KXAN) — Round Rock police closed I-35 in both directions after a man reportedly had a knife and refused to exit his vehicle.

The northbound lanes were closed at U.S. Hwy. 79 due to what police are calling a medical call. Southbound lanes were closed at FM 3406. Traffic was diverted to service roads for about an hour.

Police say two brothers were traveling on I-35 when one exited the car due to his brother’s actions. The man then called 911 and reported his brother was acting strange and had a knife, officials said.

Police say the man did not want to exit the car when officers arrived, so they shot in a pepper ball.

No one was injured, according to officials. The man was taken to Baylor Scott & White in Round Rock for evaluation.
