MANOR, Texas (KXAN) — A Manor woman is dead after leading DPS troopers on a brief chase on U.S. 290 and crashing her vehicle, according to DPS officials.

At 8:07 p.m, troopers pulled over a 2006 Mercury sedan near U.S. 290 and FM 973 in Manor. Officials say the car was driven by Renee Hightower, 53.

Troopers made contact with Hightower, but after they stepped away, she got back in her car and fled.

Hightower eventually drove over a median, rolled her car and crashed at the Valero gas station at 11209 U.S. 290. According to troopers, she was ejected from the vehicle.

EMS was called to the scene at 8:11 p.m. Medics attempted CPR, but Hightower later died at a nearby hospital.

Hightower had two active warrants out for her arrest, according to DPS officials.

There were no other cars involved in the crash, EMS said. Troopers continue their investigation.
