UPDATE: Police say son-in-law accidentally shot man outside gun show

Original Post: CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — A man is dead following a shooting in the Cedar Park Center parking lot Saturday evening.

Cedar Park police say the male passenger in a vehicle outside of the Austin Gun Show was holding a loaded handgun when the weapon went off, striking the driver, who was also a man. The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m.

The shooter called police for help, according to officials.

Homicide investigators are working to determine if the shooting was intentional.

According to the Premiere Gun Shows website, the show scheduled for Sunday has been rescheduled to August 2nd and 3rd.

KXAN spoke to the show’s owner who said that, in more than 42 years presenting the show, nothing like this has ever happened.

“It’s a tragic event,” said Tim Finucane. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.”

Organizers at the Cedar Park Center posted this official response on the gun show’s information page:

All of us here are deeply saddened by this tragic event. Right now, there are more questions than answers, and we and our security department are doing everything possible to assist the Cedar Park Police Department in their investigation.  We are prayerful for the immediate family and also for those who witnessed this. Very difficult. After discussions with the promoter, Premier Gun Shows have decided to reschedule Sunday’s Gun Show activities to August 2 & 3, 2014.
