AUSTIN (KXAN) — World Cup fever has taken hold in the ATX!
On Tuesday, July 1, the Long Center will be hosting a free viewing party for the USA vs. Belgium match.
The Austin Aztex, the Office of Council Member Mike Martinez and Clear Channel Media & Entertainment worked together to organize the party.
The free event will be on the lawn and open to the public. People can bring chairs and blankets to sit on.
Food trailers and a full bar will be available.
Gates will open at 2 p.m. The match will be shown on jumbotrons starting at 3 p.m.
“I’m beyond grateful to the Austin Aztex and Clear Channel Media & Entertainment for partnering to make this event possible for Austin,” said Council Member Martinez.
ESPN said Austin was one of the top markets watching the United States’ match with Germany on Tuesday.
New York led all markets with a 9.7 rating, followed by San Diego (8.6), Sacramento (8.3), Seattle/Tacoma (8.1), Orlando (8.1), Baltimore (8.1), Columbus (8.1), West Palm Beach (7.9) and Providence (7.6). San Francisco and Austin checked in at No. 10 with a 7.2 rating.
Earlier this month, the Austin Aztex announced they will be moving up to the USL PRO in 2015.
