AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 25-year-old woman died in the Travis County Jail less than 12 hours after she was arrested.

A corrections officer found Suzanna Skripkina unresponsive in her cell during a routine check about 4:30 a.m.

Medical staff at the jail, Austin-Travis County EMS and the Austin Fire Department each responded to try and help the woman. She was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Skripkina was arrested Wednesday at 6:05 p.m. for a community court warrant related to a city ordinance violation.

The Travis County Major Crimes and Internal Affairs units are investigating the case, along the with Travis County Medical Examiner’s office. An investigation is common after an inmate dies while in custody, jail officials said.

Sheriff’s detectives say there was no evidence of criminal activity and that the death appears to be due to medical issues.
