PONCE INLET, Fla. (NBC/WESH) — A stranded manatee is back in the ocean after a group of beachgoers jumped into action.

The manatee got stuck on Disappearing Island on Wednesday afternoon near Ponce Inlet, Fla.

Florida Fish and Wildlife officials arrived on the scene and helped organize the group to safely lift the mammal back into open water.

The manatee didn’t seem too stressed as it swam away.

Disappearing Island is popular with boaters because low tide gives them a good place to beach their watercraft.
