Soccer ball cars on highest gondola in the world

LA PAZ, Bolivia (NBC/RTV) — Bolivia may not have qualified for the World Cup, but that doesn’t mean World Cup fever isn’t alive and well there.

Bolivia hasn’t qualified for a World Cup since 1994, but many Bolivians are passionate soccer fans.

To get into the World Cup spirit, some of the cable cars above La Paz have been decorated to look like giant soccer balls. And that World Cup spirit really soars.

The gondola system is the highest in the world, carrying passengers 13,000 feet above sea level between La Paz and the neighboring city of El Alto. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
