Driver charged in motorcyclist’s death

AUSTIN (KXAN) – A 24-year-old woman is facing intoxication manslaughter charges after she admitted to troopers she was smoking marijuana and taking pain killers the night before driving, DPS Troopers said.

Rachel Beth Riley was taken into custody after the car she was driving struck a motorcyclist in the 1000 block of Pace Bend Road South Monday afternoon near Lakeway. The motorcyclist died at the hospital.

According to the arrest affidavit, Riley was driving north on Pace Bend Road when her car veered onto the shoulder and she over corrected. She lost control of the car and struck the motorcycle.

Police identified the rider as Ivan Johnson, Jr.

Riley was being held in the Travis County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.
