New sex charges filed against AISD teacher

AUSTIN (KXAN) — In the days following the arrest of an Austin elementary school teacher on sexual assault charges, four new allegations were made against the same teacher according to Austin Independent School District Police.

Of those four, two have now led to charges of indecency with a child — while the other two are being investigated.

Arrest warrants filed Monday say Alfredo Andrade-Gaytan touched two Walnut Creek Elementary third-grade children inappropriately over their clothing during class.

“We have two different incidents in two different time frames,” said AISD Police Chief Eric Mendez.

Mendez said one alleged victim reported being touched at least four times during the fall 2013 semester and another alleged victim reported the same thing during the spring 2014 semester.

Andrade-Gaytan was arrested over the weekend at a family home in Washington County. He will be brought back to Travis County to face the two new charges, each of which carries a $100,000 bond.

According to the arrest affidavits, both children say Andrade-Gayton would kneel beside their desk during class and touch them in inappropriate areas on their body.

One victim never said a word to her parents, and investigators were only led to her through the interview of another alleged victim.

“The parents said the child never made an outcry,” said Mendez. “We had a child we were contacted about, who also provided information about another child.”

Mendez said Monday that they have had bilingual officers at every campus meeting looking into the matter to make sure language barriers are not keeping other possible victims quiet.

He also assured parents who may choose to keep quiet over immigration fears: “We are not concerned about immigration status. We want you to come forward.”
