New park proposed for SW Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Southwest Austin will get a new park if the City Council gives its okay next week.

A plot of land near Circle C Ranch has remained vacant since the area was developed about 30 years ago. Original plans for the vacant lot were for a road to connect parts of the subdivision. Circle C residents now want to build a park with walkways and bikeways.

“Many times, connectivity doesn’t mean asphalt,” said Kim Ackermann, Vice President of Circle C Homeowners Association. “It means providing a place for people to use bicycles, people to walk in a safe environment… and that’s the kind of connectivity that we are looking at: alternatives to roads, and I think it’s going to serve a big need.

City council will vote on the park plan on Thursday. If approved, the new park will be named Barstow and will funded by the Circle C Neighborhood Association.
