Juneteenth celebrated in East Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — An important date in Texas history was celebrated with a parade in East Austin Saturday.

On June 19, 1865,Texas slaves learned they were free.

AISD band members joined revelers marching down Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard Saturday morning..

Central Texans also recognized the day with a 2K run and celebration at Rosewood Park.
