AUSTIN (KXAN) — “At Samsung we are a 24/7 facility, so most people get here by car,” said Julie Fisher, public affairs and community relations specialist with Samsung.
One look at the parking lot and that’s obvious, but transportation options at Samsung are limited.
“Since we’re pretty far down Parmer Lane we don’t have a bus that stops here at Samsung,” said Fisher.
That’s where Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization’s ‘Commute Solutions’ comes in. It is an online resource anyone can use for free to find alternative ways to battle the commute by transit, bike, or carpool.
Samsung created a site and challenged its employees to create carpools.
“Our employees can log on and input their zip code so they can look up other employees who are in their surrounding area so they can carpool to work,” said Fisher.
Samsung made front and center parking spots for carpoolers. And since April, 142 people have bought in, saving a total of 772 gallons of gas.
And this resource may help you find a different way to get to work.
“You can put in your origin and destination and it will show you different options,” said Julie Mazur, program coordinator for CAMPO Commute Solutions.
Most choose transit, but it helps you figure out if you can leave your car at home to get to work.
Companies who would like to set up their own service for employees to find alternative ways to get to work can do that through Commute Solutions free of charge.
