AUSTIN (KXAN) – A man charged with aggravated kidnapping and robbery with a deadly weapon in Austin on Wednesday was also involved in a bank robbery in Bastrop, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police say 25-year-old Ronnie Worthy approached a woman getting out of a black Chevy Tahoe at a St. David’s Hospital parking garage and forced her back into the vehicle while pointing a semiautomatic pistol at her.
The woman told police that Worthy drove around the parking garage a couple times before exiting onto 30th Street. In a nearby parking lot, he demanded the woman perform sexual acts on him, the document said. When she refused, he punched her in the face and pulled her head down towards his lap, the affidavit read.
She pulled back and offered Worthy money, showing him a bank card. He took her to a nearby Wells Fargo bank and pulled into a drive thru lane, but the woman said she needed to use an ATM instead.
Worthy said if “she did anything stupid, he would shoot her,” the document said. Once out of the car, she ran into the bank screaming for help and Worthy fled the scene in her SUV.
As Austin police continued their investigation at the Wells Fargo bank, they learned of a bank robbery had occurred in Bastrop County. The suspect fled in a black SUV before abandoning the vehicle.
Authorities tracked Worthy to a home at 15113 Sabal Palm Road and arrested him.
Police say Worthy admitted to the crimes in a full confession.
He is being held in the Travis County jail on $500,000 bond.
