Cool off this weekend with free events

AUSTIN (KXAN) — If you are looking to beat the heat this weekend, there is plenty to do.

Here are some tips from our partners with Free Fun in Austin.

KGSR and Family Eldercare’s Fan Fare Friday

Help someone cool off this summer, while enjoying some free music, crafts and games Friday at Threadgills.  It’s part of Family Eldercare’s Summer Fan Drive.  You can enjoy the entertainment and free pancakes with a donation of a new fan or $15.  It runs from 7 a.m. to midnight.

Champions Day at Hawaiian Falls

From 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., Pflugerville’s new water park will host Champions Day Saturday.  Individuals with special needs will get in for free and have exclusive access to the park.

Juneteenth Historical Parade and Celebration

A historical parade will fill up the streets on Saturday, to celebrate Juneteenth. That will start at 10 a.m. at Comal Street and MLK Boulevard.  The parade will head to Rosewood park for a celebration from noon to 8 p.m.

Summer Jam 2014

Help keep Austin the live music capital on Saturday with the Summer Jam. There will be Afro-Latin, Cajun and Psych-Dub music at the ABGB on West Oltorf starting at 3 p.m.

Music for Kids: Lucas Miller

Sunday the Music Division of the City of Austin will hold a music series for the whole family.  There will be a variety of singer songwriters, including Lucas Miller at the Faulk Central Library.  That starts at 2 p.m.
