(CNN/THE PHILLIPS COLLECTION) — An incredible discovery is making waves in the art world.
Researchers have discovered a painting by Pablo Picasso — hidden beneath one of his most famous works.
This is the painting many art lovers will recognize: Picasso’s “The Blue Room.”
Using special infrared camera technology, experts at the Phillips Collection in Washington uncovered a portrait of a bearded man.
If you look closely at these images, you can see the man wearing a jacket and bowtie, with three rings on his fingers.
Now art historians are hoping they can identify the mysterious man in the painting.
It’s long been known there was something hidden under the outer layers of “The Blue Room,” but the technology to see it clearly only became available recently.
