AUSTIN (KXAN) – Dove Springs District Park tore down its old playground and started the groundbreaking process at a ceremony Wednesday morning.
The Austin Parks and Recreation Department partnered with the Austin Parks Foundation and St. David’s to host the kick off for the construction of a new playscape.
The park was originally built in the 1990s and the playground and surrounding trails have become obsolete.
This renovation is part of a larger effort to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles within the Dove Springs community.
“It’s a great way for kids to get outside and play,” said Colin Wallis, Executive Director of the Austin Parks Foundation. “We really listen to the community here in Dove Springs about what they wanted and what they needed, so the playscapes and nature trails that are being built are based on that feedback.”
According to Wallis, construction of the new playscape is expected to be completed by October of this year.
