AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Austin Independent School District hosted one of two job fairs on Wednesday. The district is looking to fill transportation and food service jobs for the fall and throughout next school year.

The district said the starting pay for bus drivers is $13.90 an hour and could eaarn a $400 signing bonus, but candidates must meet several qualifications.  They must be 21-years-old, cannot have a DWI or any convictions.  They must also pass a physical exam, drug test and criminal background check.

If someone is eligible for a position, they must give a fingerprint which will be checked on a national database.  If it’s clear, then a person is okay, but if a candidate has been arrested, it will show up then it’s reviewed.

When it comes to food services, someone could make $14.18 an hour or become a substitute food production specialist, which earns $7.25 an hour.
