Being stopped by police a good thing for some kids in Pflugerville

PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — Getting stopped by the police usually means you are doing something wrong. But what about getting a ticket for doing something good?

Pflugerville police officers started patrolling the streets Monday looking for kids doing something to be safe. Those children will be given a special ticket, thanking them.

It is called ‘Cool Moves‘ and this is the fifth year for the program.

Police will be giving tickets for things like wearing a helmet when on a bike, crossing the street safely and wearing a seatbelt. Kids will then be able to use the tickets to get free ice cream this summer.

“It helps build a rapport with our students and children within the community,” said Cpl. Dan Griffith with the Pflugerville Police Department. “They’ll know offices are their friend…when they have a problem they can come to us, and know we’re not just the ones writing mom and dad a ticket.”

The Cool Moves program will be running until the end of September. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
