AUSTIN (KXAN) – A Sysco Corporation truck flipped and crashed on eastbound Ben White Boulevard early Thursday morning after the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
The wreck happened just after 5 a.m., shutting down three main lanes of Ben White between Montopolis and Riverside. The driver of the rig was not injured in the crash.
The big rig was carrying about 20,000 pounds of Styrofoam cups and food for hospitals, some of which spilled. The main lanes of Ben White could be closed for several hours.
A Sysco representative reported to the scene of the crash to assist the driver. According to the representative, what caused the crash was the driver falling asleep at the wheel.
