ELGIN, Texas (KXAN) — The teen who suffered burns after a house exploded is showing signs of improvement.

The grandfather of 17-year-old Marcus Newman says Marcus had surgery Wednesday and it went well.

Family says Marcus is in pain, but stable. He has two surgeries to go. Marcus’ grandfather also reports his grandson’s vision is getting better. Although, it’s still blurred.

Investigators are trying to pinpoint the cause of a propane leak after the blast Sunday.

Originally, the Elgin Fire Department hoped to wrap up the investigation by the end of the week. However, a fire investigator says the investigation may now take longer because of new details and the involvement of another insurance company.

The Railroad Commission of Texas comes up with some of the rules about safe storage and use of propane. It’s also looking into what may have led up to the explosion and whether any of those rules were broken.

A spokesperson says the commission expects to issue a report in about three months.
