Yosemite backpacker rescued after nearly falling to death

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (NBC) — A hiker who nearly fell to his death was safely rescued from Yosemite National Park’s upper Yosemite Falls.

The accident happened May 28 when the backpacker slipped on a rock and fell into the rapids.

He managed to climb onto a rock and wait to be rescued.

A helicopter was brought in and plucked the backpacker from the boulder, who was then treated for hypothermia.

Park officials say he would have died if he had not been able to get onto the boulder.
