BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) – A Bastrop ISD employee has been placed on leave after making something that resembled a noose as a decoration for a western-themed award ceremony for Cedar Creek Middle School staff.

Bastrop ISD tells KXAN another staff member noticed the noose and alerted campus administrators who removed it from the decorations.

The district says the campus staff were the only ones in attendance at the Wild West themed award ceremony.

“While it appears that there was no malicious intent, Bastrop Independent School District takes concerns such as these extremely seriously and is currently conducting an in-depth investigation into the matter to ascertain the facts of the situation and whether or not any disciplinary action should take place,” district officials said in a written statement to KXAN. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
