City signs up 201 potential lifeguards, 13 pools still closed

AUSTIN (KXAN) — The city’s latest effort to hire on new lifeguards netted 201 potential workers. The parks and recreation department is now sifting through the applications and hopes they will soon be able to reopen the remaining 13 pools.

At a job fair on Tuesday, the city said they still needed 300 lifeguards.

Reed Pool was opened Wednesday after temporarily being closed for maintenance after vandals dyed the water purple. Montopolis Pool is still closed while crews continue maintenance work there.
