HORSESHOE BAY, Texas (KXAN) — Two women were taken by helicopter to the hospital after being stabbed during a suspected burglary on Tuesday, according to officials from STAR Flight.
Police responded to the home in the 100 block of Harbor Light Drive about 12:30 p.m.
STARFlight took the two women to University Medical Center Brackenridge from Scott and White Hospital in Horseshoe Bay.
The two women stabbed are believed to be visitors from Germany. Police say despite their serious injuries, they’re expected to be OK.
A suspect, 34-year-old Johnathan Kirk, was arrested by the Bastrop Police Department. Authorities said Kirk lives in Bastrop. He’s been charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Shane Jones was working nearby when the stabbings happened.
“Within minutes there were two fire trucks, two ambulances, about eight cops here, and he asked us to take statements,” said Jones.
Jones says that before police arrived, he looked right at the suspect. “I looked over and this guy just dropped his drill battery. It wasn’t anything serious, didn’t think anything of it. I saw him, he looked at me, I looked at him.” They originally thought he was doing some work in the neighborhood.
“Upon arrival we found two female victims who were cut very badly,” said Horseshoe Bay Police Chief Bill Lane.
Jones saw the victims before they were airlifted to UMC Brackenridge.
“I saw the stab wounds to the neck and them loading them in ambulance,” he said. “That’s all I’ve been able to think about all day.”
Horseshoe Bay authorities said their investigation into the assault is ongoing and that a motive for the attack was unclear. Investigators spent Tuesday talking with neighbors, workers in the area, and anyone else who may have witnessed the assault.
“It’s a retirement community,” said neighbor Mark Love. “This is very unusual, very unique.”
“I was pretty upset,” Jones added. “It happened right next to us. That’s a hard thing to go through.”
They plan to search the suspect’s home, as well as where the incident happened.
Authorities from the Llano County Sheriff’s Office, Marble Falls Police Department, Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, Bastrop Police Department and the Texas Rangers were assisting in the investigation.
