LAVALLETTE, N.J. (NBC/WCAU) — Increased whale sightings are happening on the East Coast.

A humpback whale was spotted close to the New Jersey coastline, while another made quite a splash near Mantaloking.

And a ferry crewmember got video of a humpback whale in the Delaware Bay last week.

It’s that time of year when the whales are migrating from the Caribbean to Canada, and some local whale-watching operators say they’re seeing more of the majestic mammals closer to shore than normal — possibly due to an influx of fish that the whales eat.
