New parking rules won’t affect bikers this weekend

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Police plan to let motorcycles park on Sixth Street this weekend for the Republic of Texas Biker Rally, despite new restrictions.

Last month, the city stopped letting cars park on Sixth Street between Red River and Brazos from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursdays – Sundays.

The rule won’t apply to motorcycles this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

If you’re driving a car and are parked on Sixth Street during the restricted hours this weekend, plan to get towed. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
