Marble Falls ISD: Child porn suspect put ‘devices’ in schools

MARBLE FALLS, Texas (KXAN) — A former Marble Falls ISD employee charged with aggravated assault of a child and possession of child pornography confessed to placing “devices” at the middle and high school campuses, according to information passed on to the district from Texas Rangers.

Deavon DeLancey, 31, was arrested on Thursday night and booked into the Burnet County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $1,100,000 bond.

He had been with the district for 11 years, mostly working in the IT department.

DeLancey was also a firefighter with an EMT certification for the Marble Falls Fire Area Volunteer Department. Chief Michael Phillips said DeLancey was removed from the fire department when they learned of his arrest.

Superintendent Robert O’Connor says the district was notified Thursday evening about the charges and sent an e-mail blast on Friday to parents.

In the email, Marble Falls ISD says Texas Rangers were investigating allegations that an employee had taken “inappropriate videos and/or photos of Marble Falls ISD students in District bathrooms and dressing facilities.”

An initial search of the schools did not turn up any devices, but the investigation is ongoing.

On Monday, O’Connor said several parents called with question about the images, which have been seized by the Texas Rangers. The Rangers say they will contact the parents of kids affected, but that it may take them another two or three weeks to sift through all the data.

“Truthfully, Marble Falls ISD is a great system and Marble Falls is a great community,” O’Connor told KXAN on Monday. “It’s saddening and sickening that one individual would bring negative press to the area.”

The Texas Rangers started investigating the case a few months ago after they were asked to look into it by the Cottonwood Shores Police Department.
MARBLE FALLS ISD LETTER TO PARENTS:

Late Thursday evening, June 5, Marble Falls ISD was contacted by the AG’s office, working in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, in regards to an ongoing investigation of an MFISD employee. The AG’s office stated that one of our employees had been arrested and charged with child pornography and aggravated sexual assault. The District is fully cooperating and assisting with the AG’s office and the TX Ranger’s investigation. This individual will no longer be an employee of the District.

A component of the investigation is that the employee had taken inappropriate videos and/or pictures of MFISD students in district bathrooms and dressing facilities. Throughout the evening, law enforcement officers and district officials conducted a thorough search of all district campuses and facilities to insure that no inappropriate devices were in place. No devices were found on-site. Having not found any inappropriate devices and knowing that the individual has been arrested, the District felt confident that all District facilities were safe for our students and staff.

MFISD will be in constant contact with the law enforcement agency as we continue to investigate this incident. If a student’s image was captured on an inappropriate video or picture, the parents of those students will be contacted. Currently, all evidence is with the appropriate law enforcement agency. They will need some time to sort through the evidence, but as we gain additional information, we will keep the appropriate parties informed.

If you have any evidence that you believe is relevant to this case, please contact the MFPD. Additionally, officials at the School District Central Office are available to answer questions. If you have specific questions or concerns related to this topic, please call 830-693-4357 and you will be directed to the appropriate person.

The unfortunate action of any one individual is not a reflection of this great community. This community and the staff of MFISD care passionately about our children. MFISD will continually strive to provide a safe learning environment for our students.
