AUSTIN (KXAN) — Henry Winkler, who you may remember as “The Fonz,” was in Austin this weekend… but not for the X-Games.

He was in town to accept the Achievement in Television Excellence award at the ATX Television Festival.

Winkler says he enjoys visiting Austin and is cutting ahead of the line at Franklin’s BBQ.

“This is a great thing,” he said. “I’m so sorry. This is a great thing about being a celebrity. I called Franklin’s from LA. They said we’ll save you some meat.. hello!”

Winkler didn’t just accept an award while in Austin.

Friday, he visited the Rawson Saunders School, which is the only full-curriculum school in Central Texas for students with dyslexia. Winkler is dyslexic and advocates for dyslexia awareness. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
