CAMERON, Texas (AP) — One inmate has been killed and several others are among six people hurt in a Central Texas collision between a van hauling prisoners and a car.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice on Tuesday identified the female inmate who died as 53-year-old Ellaree Mathews. Further details weren’t immediately available on Mathews, who was dead at the scene late Monday morning near Cameron.

The Department of Public Safety says the wreck involved a van hauling four female inmates from the Hackberry Unit in Gatesville to a substance abuse treatment facility in Beaumont. Trooper D.L. Wilson says two transport workers were also in the van.

Officials say one inmate and one transport worker were treated and released. Conditions of the other two injured prisoners and the two drivers weren’t immediately available Tuesday.
