Pedestrian hit by truck swerving to miss animal

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 69-year-old man is in the hospital in serious condition after he was struck by a pickup truck on Monday morning, according to New Braunfels police.

A 33-year-old man was driving northbound on the 1100 block of Walzem Mission Road in New Braunfels at approximately 7:14 a.m. when he swerved to miss an animal on the roadway. The Sierra pickup truck then mounted the curb, hitting a street pole and the 69-year-old man who was out on his morning walk.

The man sustained numerous injuries from the crash, including possible internal injuries and broken bones, according to police. He was transported to University Hospital in San Antonio for further medical treatment where he is listed in serious condition.

Authorities said they expect no charges will be filed.
